Hot and Hot Fish Club #2

There’s a fabulous Southern restarant in Birmingham, Alabama called The Hot and Hot Fish Club. Jack grew up with its owners on the Gulf Coast, and we got one of their cookbooks as a Christmas gift. Since I love to cook, I’ve really enjoyed this cook book. Kinda wondered about the name, but I’ll tell you the name is what I thought about yesterday when the Andi Pie made her first of what is hoped to be many trips offshore! My fishing crew gave new meaning to “The Hot and Hot Fish Club” as I’m certain I had a very “hot” crew! Cameron and Jonathan joined us yesterday, and let me tell you they know what they’re doing!
Cameron, no doubt, cut his first teeth aboard The Major Motion. I’m convinced he and Jonathan took their first steps on that fishing machine. Although the bite was only on for a short while mid morning yesterday, we had a great first trip and did end the day with 9 mahi in the fish box.
Left The Cut shortly after 5AM for what was a nice ride out at about 32. We dropped the first lines and immediately had 2 small mahi. We’d have tossed them back, but they voraciously swallowed the baits, and I had to cut their faces to their gills to get the lures back - felt badly about that, too.
Continued trolling Southeast into deeper water with no more action until somewhere between 10AM and 11AM when all 6 rods went down. We put 4 nice mahi in the box and released the other 2 small mahi. Had 3 more single hits and put 3 more decent mahi in the box. Continued trolling and working the baits hard, but there were no more bites.
We picked up at 230 for a sweet ride home at 35, enjoying some “blue colas” and other assorted viddles. Let me tell you, my hot fishing team can eat, now!
Although the fish bite wasn’t quite that hot, we had a phenomenal day on the water. We couldn’t have done it without Cameron and Jonathan. I kept telling them all day long that I was certain I had the “hottest” fishing club of all the boats out there yesterday!
Here are a few pics - note, my cam is off by an hour.

Nice going Andi and Jack!! Glad you found some fish. That crows nest your have is pretty sweet! Keep in touch. We need to fish together some time!

Set the trap boys, we going to pass through them again!!

Sounds like a definite plan, Scott! We’d hoped to go again tomorrow, but it looks like we’ll have to wait 'til next weekend. Maybe we could meet at the GT landing and head out together? Jack and I both dive as well, so we could toss the dive equipment on board too. Uh oh, that means Jack has to install the racks this week… He can do it!
Good news is we only burned what we’re guessing is close to 115 gallons of fuel, and we ran a little over 70 miles out. The seas were flat, so we didn’t have to run wide open going out or in.
Take care. A
