This week was the first time out for me this year and it was a good one!
Fished St. Helena one day and Port Royal the next (Tues & Wed).
Should have caught near 20 fish OTF in those two days but I was missing strikes, fish dropping the fly after the initial run, break offs trying to keep 30" fish out the Congo, etc.!
Mostly my short comings on the flat were due to my rusty touch from the lack of fishing I guess!
My cast was on the money though and the fish were very cooperative.
On Wed when the water got deep and the fish started cruising, I switched over to a red/white (Mirro-lure) suspending deer hair fly that proved to be irresistible!
Cruising 2&3’s would scramble to get it first and crushing the fly!
I ended up landing 7 fish…15 total between 3 anglers Tues and 2 on Wed.
Water was nice too and every release was strong!
D**n I miss my skiff!
very nice! when that water has been getting up, a white kwan has been my go fly/color as well.
you must be a busy man if this is your first time this yr?! are you a new daddy or something?
Had a busy summer with regards to work.
Not exactly a new dad but have one @ 2.5 and the other @ almost 1 year!
They have definitely slowed the fishing down considerably.
Also sold my skiff last fall and about to rebuild a 20 ft SeaCraft.
I think I will have to begin the hunt for another skiff soon…thought I could do without but am reconsidering!
Tiller Caiman maybe…hmmmm!
You ever want to bring that EC down to Beaufort (harvest moon tides), give a shout!
I think they will be off the charts!
quote:What year SC? We redid a 69 a couple years ago. Going to cutout seat boxes, close transom and mold in a livewell once it gets cold.

1970
will have my boxes cut out as well but will put the livewell into the leaning post.
I am a little worried about the weight on the transom with the livewell there…would be ideal though!
In hindsight, a leaning post livewell would have been the ticket, have an above deck that sits under leaning post now. Its tight in behind the leaning post to say the least. Those seatboxes are useless and the way the cockpit “drains” to the side is awful. Looking forward to having an extra foot and a half in the cockpit and actual scuppers. Apparently when a bracket is put on, it raises the stern a couple inches so it should account for the weight of full well.
