Hot Shot report for 4-10-17

We left the jetties yesterday and headed to the Outcrop(120 degrees from the jetties in 180 feet of water)and put out the high-speed spread for wahoo. We only fished three lines, as this type of trolling is new to me. About 15 minutes into the troll, we had a fish on the shotgun line, a 17 ounce Dinner Bell from Big Nic. This was our first fish on the high-speed stuff and the strike was impressive. The fish got us down to the backing in no time. We slowed the fish down and got it to the boat, a nice 50 lb. wahoo to start the season. We trolled to the Southwest Banks without another hit.

Once we reached the SW Banks, we slowed and put out the normal spread. It was kind of slow, but we did manage another 55 lb. wahoo and a couple of bonitos. We got cut off by a wahoo and another shook the hook somehow.

The ride in was smooth, as we averaged 29 knots all of the way to Wappoo Landing. Plenty of meat for the freezer.

Good catching. Wind was from the North east on us all the way home from fishing so far south.

What speed do yall run and what size weights do yall pull when high speeding, I tried for a little while Sunday running around 16 mph with 32oz weights.

Nice way to start the season Dick, I can’t get the wind to lay down for me.

Salt Shaka’

That’s a lot of wahoo for 2 fish! Good job fellas.

We were pulling a 48 ounce weight with a big lure on an 80 International, a 32 ounce weight on a Shimano TLD 50 LRS with an Ilander, and on the way back line we had a dinner bell lure (17 ounce) on a Shimano TLD 50 LRS. We were pulling the lures between 13 and 17 knots.
