Today we started on the ledge and put a dolphin in the box right away. It was the only one we saw all day long. We bumped the ledge and caught some cudas and headed out to 500 feet. We did not have any luck out there and headed back to the ledge. On the way in we hooked a sail. but it threw the hook.
Just when we thought our day was going to crap, we hit the ledge and started catching some fish. We got to the ledge at noon and in the next two hours we caught six wahoos (35 lbs., 40 lbs., two at 45 lbs., and two at 55 lbs.)a sailfish, a bonito, and two king mackerel. We lost another 3 or 4 wahoos during this time.
It ended up being a great day. The same people that chartered the boat on Friday went again with us today. They ended up with four coolers of fish and enough left over for a grateful captain and mate. Good to see the wahoos finally show up. The wahoos hit a mix of surface and planer baits. The hot lure up top was a purple and black Squitch. The planer bait was a black and red Ilander behind a #2 planer.
Looks like we will have to cancel Monday due to rough seas. We might be able to get back out on tuesday if it calms down enough.
yea we had nothing but cudas all day, very depressing. fished all the way from 130 to 250. Found 2 decent weedlines on the way in at about 130 thinkin we may be able to pull a few dolphins out and still nothing but cudas. I guess you win some and lose some but as long as you make it home safe thats all that really matters
Nice mess of fish. Those cudas can be a pain in the butt. Last time we went out we were in a big group of cobia and amberjacks all around us then the cudas chsed em off.
