I couldn’t stand sitting at the dock with such a perfect day forecast on the ocean. We put together a crew and headed for the ledge on Wednesday. We caught two dophins around the ledge, then headed out deeper. In 400 feet of water, we got covered up a few times with Skipjack tunas. Luckily, there were some blackfin tunas mixed in and we caught two of them. In 375 feet of water, I marked a pod of bait about 50 feet below the surface and caught a 25 lb. yellowfin tuna. It is only the second one we have caught this year.
We headed back in towards the ledge and found the wahoos and sails in 215 feet of water. We caught two sailfish and had about six more bites. Also caught two wahoos and lost about five rigs to the toothy critters.
The sails were biting the pink/white and the purpl/black Squitches. The yellowfin hit a green/white Squitch. The blackfin hit the Squitches also. No bites today on the naked ballyhoos. Everything was hitting the long riggers yesterday. No bites up close yesterday.
We had a great ride home in a flat ocean.
Total for the day
2 Sails
2 dolphins
2 Blackfins
2 Wahoos
1 Yellowfin
1 Cuda
8 Skipjacks and Bonitos
