hot water wash

Looking for opinions on washing a boat with hot (120/140 degrees) water. Will it help dissolve salt and oils or cause problems?

Just when I thought I'd heard it all...I'm lucky for hot water for a shower. If you polish your boat(betting you do) it may melt the wax...I haven't washed a boat since I was a mate. Lot more things to worry about than boat washing.

I wouldn’t think it would hurt. Rather than that, I try (when I actually use my boat) to find a freshwater launch site and soak the trailer for a few minutes in fresh water. There is only so much washing you can do with a hose. Soaking it lets fresh water get everywhere the saltwater does.

“Apathy is the Glove into Which Evil Slips It’s Hand”, but really, who cares?

Need to use soap to really get off salt. Water alone won’t do it.

And where in heck do you get enough hot water to wash a boat:question:

Figured to use cold water and orpine to do the initial wash and one good spray down with hot water to help dissolve the salt in hard to reach places. I was worried the water would cause silicone, sealants or even the gel coat to crack and fail because of the expansion /contraction from the temp sudden temp swings... The water comes from rinnai tankless heater I have on a building near my boat storage.

Wouldn’t see why hot water will mess with the wax! Heck, the boat gets pretty dang hot just sitting in the sun! The water won’t stay hot very long after it hits the surface anyway!

Surfboard wax breaks down in heat. I've never waxed a boat or had one with gel coat. Hot water> 120 degrees would melt wax IMO.

Different type wax! Board wax is made to be sticky! Car wax doesn’t melt!
