with this ethanol gas it will gunk up a carb bad specially after sitting awhile. u need to start treating the gas with starton and get the carbs cleaned out and if you have any gas in the tank u need to put some premuim in there to help the old gas out.

My guess to your question wold be ,gas sitting in the bowls of the carbs turns into a varnish like residue and when you try to crank up the motor the new gas that is being pumped into the carbs dislodges the residue and it becomes a nightmare.
My suggestion would be to take the gas line loose either from the tank or the motor and run the motor until all the gas is out of the carbs, that way you might have a good chance of not haveing a problem with build up of gunk.
I let my motor sit for almost a year:frowning_face: because of an injury and before I put it away I ran the carbs dry, recently I put new gas in the tank and cranked the motor up and I didn’t have any troubles.

Double D.
