Just want to make sure I do it right and I appreciate all the help on here. Guess I got a little too shallow the other day! I am assuming that this is for my speedometer, although I don’t have a guage on my boat for it. I think it is connected to my garmin 160cc fishfinder. Anyway, as you can see, one screw broke off flush with the boat and the other is still there(haven’t tried to remove yet). What is the best way to fix this? Do I need to drill out the old screws and put in some new ones? Can I just put some 5200 over them and drill new holes? If I drill new holes what length screw should I use? As you can tell I have never done anything like this before. Just curious as to what is the best way to fix this. Thanks and have a great day.

It’s definitely the paddle wheel sender for the speedometer. It also looks like stainless steel screws were NOT used when it was first installed. If you don’t need it, take it off and try to drill out as much of the old screw as you can and then fill in the holes with marine tex (good stuff!. If you want to keep it or need it for your FF, then move it over 1/2" either side of the current mounting location, drill new holes and use stainless steel screws with a good marine sealant around them to reinstall the sender.
If you just abandon the old screws, they will rust out and allow water into the holes.
I got a 1/2 inch plastic cutting board and cut it to fit an area where I would mount the transducer.I glued it to the hull and put SS screws into the hull.I then place the transducer where i wanted it and mounted it to the cutting board. No holes in the hull just the cutting board.
Thanks for the help. I will definitely take care of the old screws. May try the idea of the cutting board. What kind of glue did you use? If I choose to redrill, what size screws would I use. Just don’t want to go too deep and mess something up! Thanks again

stonoman is right on…except I had a scrap piece of star board. You will go though a few transducers during the life of your boat this will save a lot of holes in your transom
Stonoman is dead on.
I used 1" thick UHMW from McMaster Carr.
Thick enough to handle just about any screw without it penetrating the transom fiberglass. I set mine with 5200 and two stainless steel screws. I’ve even done the same thing with my jon-boat.
