Any suggestions for removing boat lettering? I need to get the name off of this boat so I can rename her. Thanks!
try more pulling and less scraping. the hope is that as much adhesive as possible comes off with the vinyl. then get some 3m adhesive remover from ur local parts store. aerosol can around $12. follow it up with a good wax job and ur all set. the adhesive can be a real pain if u scrape it though so use ur fingernail or a razor to start it then try pulling and u’ll notice that it comes off better.
- Heat Gun
- Easy Off- gets the sticky stuff off
- Fantastic, 409- any good cleaner
- Compund- depending on what it looks like after the above
- Wax
This was the quickest, cleanest, and after 20-30 bucks the most effective. Heat gun made everything go reel smooth. Good Luck!

goof off is great. you can get it at lowe’s and other places. works on all kinds of stuff. the wife even uses it in the laundry to get out grease,mud,grass stains etc. makes tennis shoes look new.
Use a razor blade to very carefully get an edge up and pull off. Then use Goo Gone (you can buy a spray bottle at Lowes for about $5) This will get all the adhesive off and not harm the gelcoat ( I used it on my boat). It is a citrus based cleaner that I have used for many different applcations and it has always worked.
Easy Off oven cleaner. Let it sit on it for an hour, and it will almost fall off…
Wear eye and skin protection when you use it. Compound and wax the gelcoat after you clean remains off with soap and water.
