How do you transport your rods???

Lookin for a welding project… How do you transport your rods via pickup while in tow? Tired of the trolling gear breaking the light tackle outfits as it bounces in the back. I’m thinking of a rod rack that will hold rods at 75 degree angle that I can just place in the bed and strap down. The rack will probably look like an upside down “U” hold rods on three sides and allow for storage in the center. Any pics appreciated

i have 2 sets of three rod holders screwed to my tool box, holds six rods, works great

not a welding project, but it works. I have an UGLY but effective PVC square that breaks down into 2 parts and is used to transport rods in the boat. I place the square around my leaning post on the deck and can stand 14 rods in the “T” connections that are glued in. Each T has a bolt that fits the rod gimbal. 4 sturdy ropes secure the PVC square to the base of the T-Top and the gunnels. Short rods go under the T-Top, taller rods go port, starboard and aft of leaning post. All rods are protected by the T-Top when moving forward. At the ramp I stow the 2 sections in the truck

Total cost about $100 and 12 beers.

I don’t have a toolbox in the bed of my truck so this is what I did. Got 1 2x4 stud, cut it to fit the bed of the truck. My bedliner has those slots in it to fit a board. Then drilled 9, 2" holes at a 60 degree angle, works great. Oh, almost forgot, get some dark wood stain and enamel it. Total cost was $15 and about 30 minutes.

That sounds like a great idea, I am going to do that as well.

How do you determine the angle, is there a gauge or is it just know how??

I didn’t really worry to much about the angle, just eyeball it and go. So needless to say, some of my rods ride a little different than the others. Afterall, it’s not a beauty contest. Just a solution.

tlread rod transporter is weak i dnt put my rods in it when i go wit him he snap em or getm hung in the tres

I’m so Charleston i got spanish moss on my balls!!

No holes, drilled in the truck. Uses the existing bed hooks and some turn buckles. I need to paint it at some point. It works very well and was cheap to make.

S4G that looks very similar to what I made. Maybe when I accumulate enough rods, I can use a wider board. Looks good.

I have a question about your method, I am looking at the same thing for my truck. Will the rods not pull the board out of that slot, I am thinking about the leverage of the rods leaning. Sounds like a great idea and would work for me I think.

I assume you are taling about the slots over the wheel wells, looks like it is made for a 2 x 6??

I have 2 turn buckles on the rear corners(corners closest to the tailgate) hooked to the tie down rings in the cab side of the bed. Get them tight and it is rock solid. I have filled mine with rods and run down the interstate with no problem. You will pick up a few bugs and be careful about the height of your rods at drive thrus. Other than that it works very well. Takes about 3 mins or less to install and remove. I have less than $20 in the whole setup.
