How do you clean the pin connections on the power cord for a Gramin 498C. Im referring to the female ends, that connect when you screw the power into the back of the device. My unit isn’t loading and I noticed some green oxidization. I hope that’s the problem. Thanks
If you have a dremel tool use the smallest bit with the sand paper on it.That’s the only thing I can think of besides a littlebaking soda and water which would not be good for the electronics.
Double D.
If I’m not mistaken, Radio Shack sells a cleaner for this application. It’s worth a shot.

Even though there is a switch on the Garmin I would install one between the battery and the electronics on your boat. The power to that connection will cause it to corrode much faster than with a switch between it and the power source. There is a switch on my console that the depthfinder and the GPS are hooked to. This has prevented this problem for me. When I get in the boat I cut this switch on and when I cut the boat off this switch gets cut off. I also have one between my radios and the battery for the same reason.

I have the same unit. I had issues with the antenna connection, a few drops of woody wax and a tooth brush seemed to clean it fine.
Second Mr. Hardware. Don’t leave power going to the connector. It will corrode much quicker.

X3 - all of my electronics have a dedicated switch of their own. Someday I’ll get around to getting labels on all of them…
