How far do you cast into marsh grass

Canoe fishing up in North Carolina. Slow day, nothing working, bored. Made a weedless Gulg shrimp and threw it way into marsh grass at high tide.

Boy did my day change. It is amazing how you find out things by accident.

Therefore, question is. How far, what conditions and what do you guys throw into marsh grass to find success.

Thanks for the advice,

Medgar

Depends on what ya lookin for. If I am trout fishing I’m on the edge. If I’m lookin for reds the I go into the grass or if there is a creek or run around it i try and get in behind them.

Most of the time I am IN the grass  If I am bait fishing I normally throw the bait tot he edge or a few feet in… depends on where I see fish… Fly fishin I am in the grass wading and sight fishin… it all depends in the tide… the places I fish there is barely any water in the grass at low but it is up to the edge…

The only time I throw into the grass is when I see a Bass tailing. Most times just work the edges of the grass.
