Hey everyone I’m trying to figure out if I have the range to do it… so how many miles each way because I only have 24 gallons and I get 3-4 miles to the gallon with the boat loaded I’m a pick your days kinda guy so it will be 1-2 ft seas when I go
Thanks for your comments

What kind of boat are we talking about and what power. 3-4 mpg is a huge difference and makes me wonder about the accuracy of that number. A long run in chop will make your fuel burn skyrocket. Myself personally, I’ve seen fuel burn change as much as 30% comparing a flat day with a day that was choppier than expected for a trip that was identical in length. All of a sudden your 3 mpg is 2 mpg and you would run out of gas in a rough chop, which would most likely end in a bad situation. Unless your boat is a sailboat, I can’t think of any boat I would take to comanche on 24 gallons. it would have to get more than 6 miles per gallon consistently for me to even attempt that. So basically, no.
I would not feel comfortable with 24 gallons…especially if you plan on trolling or bouncing around from one reef to the next. Look here ( http://saltwaterfishing.sc.gov/pdf/reefguide.pdf ) and make your own decision
3-4 is a huge difference. Which is it closest to, 3 or 4?
If it’s really 3 then no.
And like someone else already said, if the boat only holds 24 gallons, it probably ain’t big enough to be caught that far out, find someone else to ride with.
It’s 38.7 NM from the landing at Shem Creek to Comanche…give or take a .5 NM or so
Call that 85 miles round trip
Out of curiosity, what boat do you have that only gets 3-4 miles a gallon and only has a 24 gallon tank?
Over reasonably smooth seas with some gear and 3 or 4 people at just under 4000 (typically about 24-26knots), conservatively i’ll expect to burn about 6 gallons/hour (based on general observation and sea hunt/yamaha bulletins), which is about 4.5 miles/gallon and I have a 62 gallon tank
I’m sure yall will have a field day with this its a 19 ft sundance with a mariner 50 on the back I can get another 18 gallon fuel tank and I feel like I will be perfect I’m not worried about the boat doing it I was more worried about the fuel because all the dnr websites say comanche is 27.2 miles from the charleston c boey

i’m not sure how to sincerely respond to a comment indicating the lack of worry for taking a 19 foot skiff 40 miles offshore with old single outboard power and questionable fuel capacity, so I won’t comment any further.
