How far off beach

How far do you legally have to stay off the public beach in your boat? For some reason a 100 yards is sticking in my head. But so is 500 feet. Couldn’t find it on the DNR site.

Thanks

Don’t think there is a law covering off the beach other than speed , but i think there is a rule concerning how close to piers you can approach !!! Anyone feel free to correct me if i’m wrong:smiley:

Idle speed.

Well I was about 120+- yards off of south beach this morning about 9 netting some pogies and the beach patrol was wearing my ass out from his truck telling me to get away from the beach, so we moved along after we made bait. Just curious. I mean we were never over idle spreed and no where near any swimmers. I am cautious not to come anywhere near swimmers or people but just wanted to make sure I wasn’t doing anything wrong unknowingly. I felt like I had read somewhere it was 100 yards but I could be wrong. Heck coming out of the calibogue during some tides you can’t help coming within 100 yards of shore.
