Hey guys I am wondering what the farthest is that I can go offshore in my 17 foot boston whaler. I am interested in trying a couple reefs. I have a 90 horsepower mercury.
All responses are appreciated. Would about 12 miles be to far?

I had a 1971 17’ bw classic until last year. Started out with 1985 merc 90 then upgraded to 2007 yam 90. We would go 8 miles out of north inlet to ni reef about a dozen times a year. 6 gallon gas tank round trip required 9 gallons. We always carried full tank and 10 gallons extra. I sure miss spending all day in the boat for $30.00 in gas. On the right day 12 miles would be fine. Probably 13 gallon burn.

20 miles, easy…done it many times back in my youth.
On a good day, with a good captain who knows his boat, and proper safety equipment, as far as the fuel allows. But if you have to ask the question, the answer is probably don’t until you gain some experience.
