are you allowed to have on a boat?
I understand the ones you have must be legal nets, but I was told you can only have one net per license. This makes no sense to me. I have always carried a back up and usually a deep hole.

who told you that?
I’ve never seen any regulation on the number of cast nets you can have on the boat. I too usually have 2 or 3.
I have 3 or 4 on the boat. Have a 5 ft Betts Blue for Newbies. Also keep a 6 and 8 foot super pro as well as a 7 ft deep hole net. As long as they meet the minimum mesh size of 1/2 inch you can have as many as you want. Just make sure you DO NOT have anything smaller than 1/2 inch mesh on board or you can get a ticket. Doesn’t matter if you use it or not.
I always bring at least two and sometimes 4 if I think deep holing is a backup plan…
