How Many Pounds Do You Get Per Limit?

So far I’ve caught mostly saute, creole, pickled and dip size! These shrimp have the widest size differential I think I have ever seen, some are jumbo. Maybe five pounds or more jumbos per limit. I haven’t been culling yet. I think we are looking at some of the biggest “end of the season” shrimp I have ever seen! They may be starting to move from the creeks, I’m not sure yet!

I’ve weighed a measured quart of shrimp and it will weigh somewhere close to 1 1/2 lbs, maybe just a little more, but not 2 lbs. like a lot of people are inclined to believe. The math says that’s 43.5 lbs. for a limit of de-headed shrimp. But everyone knows that a quart Ziploc freezer bag will hold more than a quart of shrimp.

I have not weighed a measured individual quart, I will, both heads on and off. I carry with me on every trip a commercial grade graduated bucket.
A commercially manufactured ?48? quart cooler does not contain forty-eight quarts without including all the available air space, in the lid.
I use a sixty quart cooler, which provides for twelve quarts of ice as well as shrimp. How can you have a quality catch without a lot of ice? DNR has emptied my catch, measured with their device and concurred with my measuring ability. It cost me another few bucks in ice!
The obsessive compulsive accountant in me weighs every bag. I?ve even starting using a digital food scale that I bought from Bed Bath and Beyond.
I?ve got another question? The limit is Forty-Eight quarts of whole shrimp or Twenty-Nine quarts of heads off shrimp. Are they equal?

DNR thinks they are equal. I don’t.

THEY ARE NOT! It takes 54 quarts to make a 29 quart heads off limit! If you come back to the landing with 54 quarts you WILL get cited! If DNR checks you on the water with more than 48 quarts you will get cited! They say you have to head ALL your catch, then catch the remaining six quarts to make your 29 quarts!

slimy, that is about the same number we came up with.
