How much would this King Weigh?

Caught this in the Charleston SaltWater Classic this weekend. Something ate it after a long fight, any guesses on the weight? This half weighed 22 pounds? (Not me in the pic)

Thats a nice fish. It’s a shame it was mutilated like that because if you add another 5-6 lbs for the tail then that 27-28 lb. fish would be in the money. 15th place was 30 lbs if I remember correctly so ya’ll would be close behind. We fished the tournament too on the SWEET DEAL and ended up with just a 20. Trolled hoo’s and live baited but nothing but snakes all day. Our first fish was that 20 we weighed in but we were hoping for something bigger like you guys had. At least no complaints on the weather… Maybe we’ll see ya’ll at the Beaufort SKA in a couple of weeks.

That sucks!!!

No more than 30.

Freshwater is for drinking.

30ish

Most of the fish looks like its there.

Be there or be on the Short Bus!!

He took the bait like a bonnethead on a day old crab…

That’s a thin fish, maybe 30, more likely 25-28. The winning fish was chased by a large hammerhead 4 times, I believe was the number reported on this site heading “Charleston Classic” under offshore reports.

mid 20s…the fish looks skinny.

Cmon you know that thing would have been 50 plus on your boat....

He took the bait like a jugbelly redfish on an olive and white clouser.

I find it hard to believe that fish would only be mid 20s. This half weighed 22 lbs. Look at other King pics, there was a lot of king gone. My guess would be 32 - 35 lbs, adding ten - 13 pounds for what’s missing. I looked at 5 pounds of meat and it doesn’t come close to the size of a normal tail plus some body. Also, fish wasn’t that skinny, if you look at the fins, you’ll notice it is turned slightly, so you can’t see the whole side. Anyway, it was our first tourn., so I am happy; we caught 12 kings, kept two at 15 lbs, one at 10 and released all others. looking forward to next tourn., perhaps, Beaufort or Fishing for Miracles.

Let’s get on the water and Ham-it-Up!

We had that happen in the 2007 Miracles tournament. It really sucks. Congrats to the guys who saved the winning king last week from the jaws of the shark. They deserve to win. True sportsmen.

I’d say your fish was upper 20’s to 30.

At least 350 lbs. A sure world record!!!

28lbs

This beats the hell out of 3 putting!!!

Id say your scale is wrong and that the hole fish would go 20 maybe

**** Happens

Not likely, scale is dead-on. Weighed in a 15.0 pounder and thats exactly what my scale showed. this was our first tourn. so made a rookie mistake; next time I’ll run it down faster.

Looks skinny maybe 27-29

Bitesize is just about right… what do you think after you see the missing piece? Probably more than just a single bite for that shark though.

That is impressive work there!!
