Would it cost to rebuild a lower unit on an '89 Yamaha 200. Is it better just to replace it? If so, how much? Thanks

depends on whats wrong with it, and if its even rebuildable.
almost always cheaper to replace with a used unit.
clutch dog repair is fairly cheap, if you can get the carrier out.
a propshaft is around $400 plus labor. if you need gears and bearings, you then have to re-shim the thing, and its way cheaper to buy a used one
I’m now at www.teamcharlestonmarine.com

what’s wrong with it?
2502 trophy twin 175 mercs

under construction
It’ll grind like it’s out of adjustment but acts like it wants to engage. After a second of that…nothing, neutral. Guy told me he was out with it and it just popped out of gear so he had the linkage adjusted by a mechanic. It worked but them popped out of gear again. My guess is clutch is done and maybe gears are done. Fluid looks decent, no metal shavings. Probably just best to replace it
