Is a bay boat enough to go out and catch some of these. What are the baits tackle rigs ect to catch these fish? We wouldn’t use outriggers just rods in the holder and troll. What speeds to troll? Where to go? What seasons are best? Basically we know nothing about about kings but want to catch some. I know I could probably search this forum and find something but this forums dead so I thought I might give it a little life for a bit.
I fish in a 17’ Seahunt and do the best fishing live menhaden on stinger rigs in Sept.and Oct. from a mile off the beach to 6 or 7 miles off.I slow troll or if the wind is right drift fish with a couple of lines on balloons and one about 10’ off the bottom. I always chum while I’m fishing and look for spanish, seems the kings stay on the outside of the spanish schools.I fish with live mullet and sometimes grunts if I can’t get menhaden.I fish around the artifical reefs during the week when its pretty deserted when the spanish are there. I’m definitely not an expert but I do manage to catch a few like this. One thing about the kings when you hook a big one, 20 lb or bigger, they’ll sure get your attention on that first run. I love em!
You can’t catch fish on a dry line
Book a trip with Capt. Robert Olsen, Knot@Work Charters. He’s caught a few in his day!
