How to Freeze Shrimp

What’s your preferred method of freezing shrimp? Zip lock bags full of water, storage containers? Has anybody tried vacuum sealing for shrimp?

By the way, our Men’s Ministry has a couple of spots left on the shrimping retreat Sept. 13-15 at Bulls Bay…cost per man is $185 and includes boats, gear, food, and lodging. Details are here:

Containers. Cover shrimp with water and freeze, next day open container and add another inch or so of water and put up for as long as 2 years for me.

It is what it is!

If you vacuum seal you have to peel them first. The spike on the tail will punch holes in the bag. Its no noticeable until they expand when you freeze them. Found this out the hard way.

Vacuum sealing is the way to go. I just finished off a pack I sealed in 2010. Still as good as the 2012 shrimp. Blackhawk is correct. You have to peel the shrimp. I have one of those $1.00 deveiners that peels and deveins in one motion. Best way to vacuum seal shrimp is to peel and put on cooky sheet. Put in the freezer for about one hour, Then vacuum seal them. You put them in the freezer so all the shrimp juice is solid. This way you will not get shrimp juice inside your machine. It’s a little more work initially but when it’s time to eat the shrimp I’m ready - no matter how I plan to prepare it. I try to seal 25 to 30 percent of my catch. The rest I use bags or plastic containers.

best way i know is to buy the 5cup plastic containers. they stack good and hold enough shrimp for two easily. been doing it this way for almost 20 years.

I just hope I have something to freeze this season! Skrimp that is.
