How to get water spots off of GPS screen

I’ve tried about everything and they won’t go away!

Ask me no questions I’ll tell you no lies.

Have you tried vinegar? That usually works.

Yea, Even tried putting a paper towel on the screen and wetting it throughout the day. They still wont go away. It’s a Garmin 4212 if this helps.

I wonder if you could use plexus on the screen? Maybe call Garmin and ask what they recommend. Or maybe some of that tv screen cleaner from best buy.

How about denatured alcohol? It’s an excellent glass cleaner. Ammonia might work and WD40 might remove it too. Try a Scotchbrite pad and a very light touch.

I had them on my old Lowrance unit and nothing I found would get them off. Just had to learn to live with them.

Usually after a couple of cool ones they quit bothering me! Ive tried to use boat wax, alcohol, contact cleaner, hard water stain remover, and everything else I could find in my shop.

Ask me no questions I’ll tell you no lies.

May just be coating damage now, careful not to wipe away any more of it with cleaning products.
I had new screens put on E120’s, only washing with bottled water on facecloth. 2 years and still spot free. Keep those celebrities with bait covered gloves away from it.

Sounds like the anti glare coating is damaged, just have to live with it.

One more possible suggestion. Toothpaste and a toothbrush.

I’m with fishbowl… I believe it’s the coating and over time it gets damaged by the sun. I don’t think they are water marks. My Garmin has the same thing and nothing I have tried will take it off.

I guess I will learn to live with it. Thanks for the info.

Blue dish scrubing sponge pads. DO NOT use green or red scotch brite on your screen! Use the blue non-scratch made for cleaning non-stick pots and pans. Windex works on the screen and plastic face cover.

Keep invisiglass whipes in the boat and whipe the screen every time you rinse and dry the boat before the spots get hard. These whipes are in the auto section of Walmart. Also work great on your sunglasses.

My Lowrance 113 big screen came with a micro wipe towel and have only used it and nothing else It still looks good after 6 years of heavy service. I do take the unit off when I am not fishing and keep it in my truck stored behind the back seat in a soft computer breifcase along with the controal unit for my I pilot.

I just sent my Humminbird to be repaired [bottom lock]and it had a bad water stained screen also…
I NEVER mentioned it to the Humminbird rep… we just talked about the “problem”…
When I got it back… the screen looked BRAND NEW…142.50 shipping included seemed like a good deal for a new internal wiring harness and a polished screen…
BTW> it was a 1 day turn around… they got it on Friday and it was sent back out on Monday… GREAT customer service!!

You could try an iPad screen protector or one that is big enough to cover the screen. These have to be put on when there is no dust or dirt on the screen at all!
The film (glue) on the back of the screen protector may fill in and cover up any irregularities on the screen.

They can be removed by using a polish or rubbing compound and a lot of elbow grease. I am talking rubbing the same spot for hours. I had/have the same problem and after a few hours have a nice 4" by 4" spot on my screen that is crystal clear. I have not mustered the willpower to finish though.

On another forum they say to use AquaBuff 2000 I think it is called.

Use “Turtle Wax Chrome Polish” it’s lighter grade grit is good on glass. Recently did my phone and wife’s car… nailed it. If that don’t work, you may mess up the glass using stronger grit compounds. Per the above, I use Plexus polish (1 & 2) on my bike windshield, very nice results.
