How to rig and fish the trout trick???

Tried it in a mess of feeding trout and zero hits.I rigged it 3 ways and no hits.Even free lined it like a jerk bait.

I didn’t know there was 3 ways you could rig it. 1/8 oz. ball head jig with it strung on like a regular grub. You will know in a hurry if they are on it. They usually hit it on the first fall if you are on fish. Clear water (18-36 inches visibility) is absolutely the key. Just like all other artificials, some days they’re on it, some not.

Stonoman, About four years ago, two of us drove over from Edisto for your trout seminar at your fishing club. Send your mailing address and I’ll send you some complimentary TroutTricks, to be sure you have plenty to see it work. The TT really is amazing. Here’s the “deal”:

The TroutTrick must be allowed to fall STRAIGHT down on a 1/8th ounce
jighead (3/0) to create the reaction bite. With your rod pointed at the lure, reel in the slack and give a couple of jerks, then drop the rod tip to allow bait to fall STRAIGHT down again. In shallow water jerk sideways. The trout will hit it on the fall or pick it up off the bottom, hence your jerk becomes a hookset. We think the ribs create a vibration saltwater trout home in on. It is so strong that when you fish through a school of totally negative fish, they will strike with their mouths closed. Eventually you will foul hook one and realize what is going on. Because of this, I’ve located schools of fish I would have fished through with other baits. Thanks, Bob

Don’t give up on them Joe. I tried them a few times and got nothing so I gave up on them. I tried them again this past Friday and landed 3 with them. I am convinced I simply was not fishing them correctly. Of course if there are no fish around I guess it doesn’t matter how you fish them. Try em again Joe, they work and the strike is pretty cool.

caught some nice spottail on them this friday. i have been working them very slow, meaning allowing the bait to sit on the bottom a longer than normal before jerking it up

who’s selling them locally? I’m in Summerville.

and with their color where are u guys finding clear enough water to use them? I’m fishing mainly the Stono…

Chas Angler has the tricks but not sure where you can find the Gamagatzu 3/0. They haven’t had 1/8 or above in months. they got them in fancy style, though!

Trout Tricks are one of the easiest one’s I’ve tried. Just rip and drop. Eventually you’ll rip it and have a fish hanging on the other end.

I cannot say that they will catch fish when nothing else will, but I can say that it consistently puts fish in the cooler as much as any of the other baits I have, but more predictably. On any given day, trout may not take a swimbait, paddle tail, curly tail or DOA shrimp, but usually they will take ONE of them. But on any given day, they almost always take a trout trick.

I usually keep three lures tied on, since I cannot cover water fast (by paddle), I have to exhaust every option I have at every stop. One rod always has a trout trick. The other always has a small swim bait. The other will either have a curly tail or DOA shrimp.

Mike endangered BSB will eat anything. Or you’ll snag them accidentally due to their thick schools. I think overcrowding makes the endangered BSB eat anything to get out of the water and have elbow room!

GREAT looking boat in that second pic!

walmart on rivers has the jig heads…im new to the TT’s myself and have only tried them twice these past 2 weekends(w no luck yet!)but i see where the package also stresses letting it fall STRAIGHT down but with the current i cant seems to get this STRAIGHT fall…would moving up to the 1/4 oz be best or do you usually fish up current coming towards you or whats yalls opions…

@meks - Did you check in the freshwater section? They are on the right side near the bottom.

@Stump - I’d suggest stay with 1/8 oz but 1/4 oz will work if in a really strong current. Make sure you watch your line on the surface until it stops moving. That indicates you are on the bottom. Then begin the retrieve. If the trout are there (this is important because right now they are usually bunched up, and in many places they are not there), they will hit it. Just drop your rod tip and reel in most of the slack on the fall. That should be enough. If you reel in and the TT is wrapped around the hook you missed one! Bob taught me that too BTW - a long time ago.

thanks for the insite! hope this weather holds out so i can try again sat!

how far from the bottom do you pull up with the TT before letting it fall? If in 12ft bump it up halfway (6ft)? My buddy put us on 30+ trout Tuesday most on paddle tails. TT it up but no fire.

2-3 ft
