They make a very distinct “V” in the sand as a wave washes out, similar to what you see with the small bivalves along the shore but larger. Dig them up and break off the shell (If pompano fishing). They make artificial sand fleas, I have thrown them in my gulp bucket and had luck. Its kinda fun diggin around in the sand for them. Here is what it looks like, if you cant find em try the plastic fleas.
Good luck finding the Gulp ones … I saw them clearanced out at 4 places over the summer bought a pack just for the hell of it
