I have had very mixed luck baiting and deep holing for shrimp this year. Have plenty in the freezer which I worked to acquire, just not the bounty I was in search of to bless some friends who have the taste for shrimp.
I took a neighbor who had never been shrimping and we made the run to Cowpens so we could bait or deep hole depending on our luck. Didn’t find anything in the holes. He did a great job of driving and we ended up with 1/3 of a cooler after five runs of the poles. This was more shrimp than he had ever seen so we decided to leave and try our luck at fishing while heading our modest catch. Caught one keeper redfish and he went into the cooler. Truly enjoyed our day on the water and decided to head for home. This is us at the entrance to Casino Creek with me doing a Jesus impersonation to get the picture of us high and dry! Was not expecting the center of the creek to be the low spot! Thankfully, we only had to endure an hour wait before we could walk the boat off the bar. I took the opportunity to clean the intake filters of sand before starting the engine, and I let her flush for a while before we made the run back to the ramp.
Aside from the expected ‘don’t ever do that again’ jokes that are sure to come, what else do I need to be aware of after beaching my boat and engine? There is nothing you can say that is worse than what I’m thinking anyway! I would rather know what to expect or help someone else.
That’s not high and dry - THIS is high and dry:
This poor guy’s passengers endured a hot several hours in August on the flat just outside of Shem. Your running out of water could’ve been worse!
When Leaving Casino you need to cut around the back side of the island. That has had a bad shoal for a few years.
stay to the outside of the bend, always deeper than the inside and center.
If you haven’t got stuck a little at least once you aren’t exploring enough…
You did all the right things for you engine…and water pump.
At least you made it to the water. I blew a bearing and destroyed a hub at 5:15 Friday morning in route.

I hear ya. My steering froze up as we were putting the boat in the water at Buck Hall!
Been there, …done that.

Been there, done that. It will happen. That is why I like to fish the low incoming tide.

That is just a great photo of a patient youngster.
