Research and find a good variety of reels that will suit your needs. Go to the store and pick out say a shimano,a Penn and an Okuma close to the same size and in your price range. Then go pick you out a rod or rods that will suit your needs. Put each reel on the rod/rods and get which combo feels the best. It has been my expierence that if you get decent euiptment and take care it, it will last. If you dont want to take the time to properly maintain them, get you a shimano sienna and throw it away when you start having problems and buy you another one for 30 bucks. They catch fish just fine. I like to have a combo that feels good and is well balanced and light. After all, you are going to be holding it all day.
