Right now, we are absolutely pleased. We hit a brick wall back in September, but still managed to grow our membership considerably. This year is looking promising.

IVE BEEN SLAMMED FOR 2 WEEKS NOW. AFTER SITTING ON MY ASS FOR 3 MONTHS IT FEELS GREAT! IM IN THE SOD BUSINESS, SO WINTERS CAN BE DEPRESSING! BUT SPRING AND SUMMER ROCK!
I feel the onset of spring will serve to improve alot of businesses. Folks get cabin fever and when warm weather arrives (nationally speaking) people get out more plus the election is behind us and not much we can do about that NOW. Life goes on!
Down 6% for 2008. Running full tilt now. Need to make up some ground lost in January but happy at the moment. Seeing quite a few big projects come along and all the beach front stuff still have dumpsters in the yards(remodeling). Looks promising, hope it lasts!
Bidding a lot and getting little due to pick up truck contractors low balling everything.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

seeing a lot of cost work going on. people are bidding with no profit just to keep people on staff. can’t last at that pace. Also not getting paid as promptly.

Down 10% off of 2008 #'s. Finished last year strong (up 6% for the year) so not too concerned yet.

Six months to a year ago, there would be 3-5 companies at a pre-bid meeting.Until just recently, there have been, at times, 25-40.
Ours is a specialty market, so the engineers and government entities have smartened up a bit and started making contractors and subs fill out pre-qualification forms. That eliminates a lot of the hoodlams and the residential guys that aren’t qualified.
To the question…we are looking for superintendents. Two months ago, we were trying to decide which ones of us would be laid off, now we don’t have enough people for the work.
I anticipate that this problem will get worse if the market economy continues to stabilize. It just irks me that Obama will take credit.

there’s been a little rush of activity in the real estate market lately. Everyone’s starting to realize how good of a buy property is right now.
We do historic masonry restoration, structural concrete repair, water intrusion(a lot of litigation work), and waterproofing, commercial windows etc. anything on the exterior skin. Alot of our work is institutional; colleges, hotels, hospitals and government buildings. We also do a lot of parking deck repairs.
Most of this is high-rise work and we work all of the south east.

Not bad. I am in the landscaping and lawn care business and I have only lost one client from last year. However, the amount of phone calls and emails have dropped off so far this year from last.
