A buddy of mine and I went out yesterday once we realized that was the best day to fish this week. Simrad showed that there was almost a 9’ tide swing coupled with brutal winds that were blowing hard from the East. We went to a creek we thought we would get some protection and knew had a flat we could fish for a little before the water rushed out. I was throwing a topwater(Skitterwalk) across the flat and right when I stopped to tell my buddy we should move towards some points, I heard what sounded like a bowling ball being dropped on the flat. I turn around and see a huge wake near where my lure stopped, then I feel the fish on my rod. Set the hook and it’s game on…get the fish to the boat, 29" red. We went around a bend to get some relief from the wind/tide and while fishing Trout Eye jig heads coupled with Zman plastics, we started laying the smack down on reds and trout. As the tide ripped past us, low tide finally arrived(my favorite time) and I flung my topwater far down the waterway to a small bowl in the bank. Twitch it a few times, stop to say something to my friend and hear the same sound I heard earlier. Get the fish to the boat, 28" red. Great day despite horrible conditions and glad we made the decision to go for it.
