Huminbird SmartCast?

Anybody ever tried one of Huminbird’s SmartCast d/f’s?

My fishing is pretty much all shallow-water so I’ve never bothered with a d/f, but there are times I’d like to have one available. I’m not interested in casting it, but it looks like something that could be stowed away, pulled out as needed, and put in the water beside my kayak. The rod mount thing seems a little hokey, but otherwise it looks interesting, and I’ve got a chance to pick up a new one real cheap.

I’d appreciate ■■■■■■■■ from anyone who has used one of 'em.

Thanks,

Thanks, Bryan - I thought it sounded too good to be true. Enjoyed the seminar last Spring, particularly Fred Rourk’s part. Did anything ever develop on a kayak fishing seminar? Hope your recovery is speedy.

I’ve got a humminbird prirana 1 on my tarpon 160 and it works great… the display is mounted up front and the transducer is epoxied down under my seat, wish it was up front in the bow but mine came rigged from the guy I bought it from, and I normally use it just to find the depth and look for structure… VERY handy when you fish a new area… finding the drop off is the key  I saw them and an eagle Cuda at Dicks for like $90 or so… worth the money… Use a Werker alarm system battery, I paid about $15 for mine in March and it’s still charged up after about 20 trips… we have a lot of rigging tips over on www.sckayakfishing.com there is a whole forum just on rigging… check it out…
