Hunters for the Hungry

S.C. Hunters and Land Owners for the Hungry looks to expand operations statewide
South Carolina Hunters and Land Owners for the Hungry are hoping to lessen food insecurity in households in South Carolina.
Through Operation Roundup, a South Carolina hunter can donate some or all of their legally harvested deer or hog meat to South Carolina Hunters and Landowners for the Hungry at a participating processor.
Volunteers will make sure the meat gets delivered to an agency that will use it to feed the hungry in South Carolina communities. However, S.C. Hunters and Land Owners for the Hungry, fully operated by volunteers and a 501c3 organization, needs more volunteers to extend their reach statewide and coordinate with more processers to provide meat to nonprofits.
To give an example of what is possible, Tennessee and Virginia Hunters for the Hungry bring over 300,000 pounds of wild meat to each of their respective states yearly.
S.C. Hunters and Landowners for the Hungry currently distributes meat to 40 nonprofit organizations that help feed over 15,000 people annually.
If you would like to help, click here and make a donation which will help offset processing and transportation costs. Every cent goes exclusively to the accumulation and delivery of meat to the hungry in your area.
S.C. Hunters for the Hungry will also be at the Palmetto Sportsmen’s Classic on March 22-24 at the South Carolina State Fairgrounds.
Since forming in 2004, S.C. Hunters and Land Owners for the Hungry has delivered 500,000 pounds of wild meat to communities in South Carolina.

Do you have a list of participating processors?

Growing up in MD, the FHFH was huge up there. I was always surprised by the lack of such an organization here in SC. I’m glad I stumbled across this post. I’ll definitely come see you at the PSC. Where are y’all setup?

It’s not talking crap if you can back it up…and nothing can back it up better than facts.

I love all of these efforts, very cool.

We also have a local chapter of Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry. They’ve been doing great things locally.

Trey Hopkins is the contact and a good friend, he does amazing work and puts in a LOT of effort to help locally.

I loved working with FHFH in MD. Just wish they had a broader area of coverage here in SC.

I found this interesting from a SCDNR email and wanted to share.
