Hey guys I will be camping the first weekend of Feb. at Hunting Island. I was hoping to have my boat done by then but don’t think it is going to happen so I guess I will be on foot again. Where should I fish and what should I fish with? Any fish in the Lagoon right now? Here is a pic of the boat I am building to fish from in your neck of the woods.

Thanks, Brian
Gonna be tough in Feb., Brian. Throw some grubs and you might catch a few trout:question: Good luck to you and nice boat and shop!
Sheetsrep,
When in February? The gals at Higher Ground rent kayaks, and I am helping them get more into Fishing Kayaks…
There is a possibility I could locate a yak for you through other means, though NOT guaranteed, as their rentals would be.
Finally, I would show up and fish too, as it is only a couple of miles from my house.

Those who can’t fish, spend too much on seafood!
Sheetsrep,
I may be able to make it also in Feb. what dates are you thinking of. There are always fish in the lagoon. I’ve got a touring kayak you could use. I believe the make is a perception storm. Although not the most comfortable fishing outfit I’ve caught plenty out of it.

That boat looks about ready for finish and rigging… You’ve got 3 weeks to wrap up small stuff.
I went from here

to here in less than 3 weeks

But the wife was PO’d for a while about how much time I spent in the garage.
So much water, So little time
Thanks guys! It would be cool to meet you guys and learn a thing or two. I don’t know if you would have much fun though. I have never fished from a kayak. I was down there fishing the weekend of BARF and watched some of you guys catching fish in the lagoon while I was on the bank getting skunked. Then I saw paddlin4reds handmade boat and I have been on a mission ever since. I am making two boats, one for me and one for a buddy of mine and have purchased some better fishing gear. Now I just neeeeeed to catch some fish. I have fallen in love with that whole area and can’t wait to get back.
I have not made reservations but my plans were Feb.1-3 with my fishing buddy and back again Feb.21-24 with the family.
Thanks again, Brian

It is close TB but I have another epoxy coat, epoxy-graphite the bottom and varnish to go. The weather is supposed to be cold here for the next week or so, temps. below what are recommended for the epoxy. I can tell you I can’t wait to give her a try!
Where could I find information on building a canoe/kayak like those pictured? That looks like a great project!
Nice boat sheetsrep…also, I put the link to old sparky’s forumn on my favarorites(thanks)…the thread on “robins boat” was very informative … You should try to contact(pm) yakonthefly and cutmullet …I’m sure they could help you with your fishing trips …good luck !!
