Hunting Island Info?

Hi all, me and my wife will be camping at the park Oct 13th and was looking for any help. I’ll be bringing a canoe and thought the lagoon looked like a good spot for it. Are there any other backwater areas I should look into? What about the pier?

Also my wife swears she won’t let me leave until she catches a sheepshead, she saw one caught at a pier last year and thinks their cute, go figure. I don’t have the first cule about them other than they are light biters. I’ve heard about fiddler crabs, are these sold nearby or can they be caught?

Thanks

Welcome, VolFan…fancy meeting you here. Hunting Island Lagoon is real good this time of year. RedFish, Trout, Flounder… The island is surrounded by tidal creeks. Not sure if you’ve seen the lagoon, so here’s an aerial pix…

…hopefully 5151 & YakontheFly will chip in… they fish the 'goon more then I do.

Hello Volfan,

Living dangerously posting with that name in South Carolina! :stuck_out_tongue:

As for the lagoon, October is prime season for Redfish, Seatrout and Flounder… As for sheepshead, the Harbor Island Bridge is the most likely place in the area…Though I wouldn’t know for sure, since I never fish for them…

I can try to meet you at the Lagoon and show you some of the ropes about the best areas there… Of course, I might hold you to a commitment to make it to he BARF get together (November 19-21) as payment for such knowledge!

Those who can’t fish, spend too much on seafood!

Thanks for the help, particularly the pics, I can’t wait to get there. As for the college football, well I wouldn’t worry to much about smack from me, the ol ball coach will probably get him another win this year over my Vols.

Anything specific tackle wise I might need?

Cutmullet I’ve been planning on heading to the lagoon on Sat…think yakotfly might be heading out also.
