It looks like I will be there this weekend and I hope to drag the yak along for the trip. I went through a couple old posts from last year by cutmullet, but I thought I would check in for any new info.
Talking about Huntington Beach St Park in Murrells Inlet? If so, you’ve got several launch options. If you want to launch in the ocean, the beach at the north end of the park has a boardwalk that will get you out to the beach w/o fighting any stairs.
To launch in the inlet, the best place is Oyster Landing. When you leave the park, turn north on Hwy 17. In about a mile, they’ll be a dirt road to the right, with a small “Oyster Recycling” sign. Watch for the “Nance’s Restaurant” billboard, then turn right behind the billboard. The dirt road will take you to a small beach on the inlet. At the north end of the beach there’s a small creek that will take you out to Oaks Creek, one of the main creeks in the inlet. Morse Landing is another good inlet put-in, just a little further north on Hwy 17 Biz, beside Hot Fish Club restaurant. Be careful here on low tide, 'cause it can leave you with a crawl thru pluff mud.
Fishing has been slow. Some of the guides have been reporting a few flounder, black drum and spottail around the Murrells Inlet jetties. Snot grass in the creeks is still a royal pain.
Pawleys: Yup we are staying at the State Park there. I was planning on using the oyster landing to get out and try for anything! At least I should be able to pick some oysters for snacks.

Thanks for the heads up. I’ll check the maps for public grounds. As for the weather…I can only hope for the best.

I hear ya’, xman. Wish I could join you, but I’m being dragged outta town this weekend to a wedding. Who the hell schedules a wedding during March Madness??? I’ve seen some small reds in the shallow creeks on incoming tide, but they’re awfully spooky. I fished Oaks Creek this morning until the wind blew me off the water but did nothing. If you find a honey hole, let me know.
Hey Mud - I haven’t fished Pawleys Creek yet this year, but it’s always worth a shot. We did decent over there last Fall with flounder and some small reds, but never did get into any trout at Pawleys. I’m sure somebody did. BTW, remember OysterCracker? He ran into some username issues and had to mutate into PawleysDude. Didn’t help his fishing skills a ■■■■ bit.
XMAN I live right here about 2 minutes from the oyster landing let me know what day you are coming down and i will be glad to go check the signs for open or closed before you come!
