So originally I was going to stay put and as of Thursday night I changed my tune and started boarding up the house. We are a mile or so off Folly and a 2 year old daughter in the picture persuaded me to reluctantly make plans to get out of town. So what to do with the boat - storm surge was looking like a potential player. My Aunt’s HOA in north Charleston was being a PITA about me putting my boat at their house a bit inland, and I didn’t feel like trailering a 7000 lb boat to the mountains of NC where we were headed. Friday morning I was contacting a few storage facilities in north Charleston to see if they were open (and certainly were not). I have had trailer work from Charleston Trailer before, and figured I would give them a ring on the outside chance they were around at 8 am and that they would be willing to let me to drop my boat at their yard for a few days. Rod happened to pick up the phone and remembered me - He indicated he was out of town, but let him call Steve. Steve gets back to me - " Sure thing Chris, I’m right around the corner, call me when you are on Dorchester and I will meet you over there and help you secure the boat and lock the gate behind you."
Steve and Rod are great guys, who do great work with top shelf parts (kodiak). They have come in below their originally quoted price in the past, and frankly I wouldn’t consider using anyone else in Charleston for needed trailer work due to 70+ splashes a year.
I just thought I would share my experience. They would not accept any money, but I got a bottle of Bourbon for each of them when I head over there tomorrow to say thanks - and to that - Thank you Steve and Rod for alleviating the stress of an otherwise 500 mile unnecessary trailer up to the mountains and back in weather and the chaos of this most recent evac.
You guys rock.
