I noticed some reddish brown fluid coming out from where my steering wheel meets the console. Also, a little rattle when turning the wheel sometimes. I am assuming I have a leak in my power steering. My question is how to do I diagnose where the leak is a and how difficult a job is this? I have never worked with hydraulics of any kind. My mechanical ability tops out at changing a water pump at this point
It is Seastar on a 17 ft Action Craft
andy
remove the steering wheel
under there is a disk with 3 screws under the disk is a square edged o-ring
it just lifts out
replace it and put it back together
very simple, straight forward
then you have to bleed the hydraulic system and add fluid

Chris V. How big a job is repairing hydralic steering leak at the motor?
its a bit more involved
removing brackets, etc…
corrosion is usually an issue

Thank you Chris.
Chris,
I believe I’m looking for part#225226, shaft seal. Do you sell it or know where I can buy it. I haven’t been able to locate it online. All I’m finding is seal kit #hs5176. I don’t need the special tool and such do I?
I looked at the my model and it is Seastar(Teleflex) 1.7 Helm
The fitting you replaced last month definitely fixed the leak and the work looks great. Thanks!
