Hey Ya’ll.
It’s time to replace/repair my steering setup. Right now I have a Baystar 401*. I cannot remember the exact number right now but, 19 ft boat and 115 four stroke motor.
My question is, should I go with the latest Seastar generation replacement rig or should I look at a different manufacturer.
What do you folks prefer?
I will say that I have gotten good service from the setup that I have but about every two years it has blown seals so the $7 kit had to be installed. Now the whole thing is just leaky around the helm and needs to be replaced.
So should I replace with Seastar components or should I look at getting another manufacturer? If so any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks ahead of time.
Chris V just replaced my steering for me and did a great job with a quick turnaround.
After being released, a lot of fish die, but a lot of them live also.

Thanks for the reply CaptFritz. With no doubt in my mind that Chris V probably does outstanding work, the guy has definitely helped me out with advice in the past, I am going to try do it myself to save on $. If you don’t mind me asking, what setup did you have him put in for you?
we installed a seastar sytem.
I am not a big fan of the bay star product.
uflex makes a good product, but parts are not as readily available, and I haven’t found them to be any less expensive.

Thank you again. I will be calling Seastar to get the correct setup.
