Does anyone have any pros and cons on the “Baystar” lesser version of the hydraulic steering? It almost half the cost of the standard Seastar steering. I DO only have a 150hp on my boat too. Is it worth the extra expense to get the normal Seastar set up?
Being superstitious is bad luck.
From my personal experience, the Baystar on my '97 Evinrude is in much better shape than the SeaStar on my '06 Zuke. The SeaStar unit already has very minor pitting on the shaft and now the seals are beginning to leak. ChrisV said I will likely need to replace the unit soon. No problems from the BayStar.

I know the Baystar is supposed to be the same thing, just a little less than the Seastar as far as strength. I was just wondering if it was just as cool. My cable steering works good but I hate the ■■■■■■■■ I get. I have to hold the wheel almost all the time. Yes, I have adjusted the trim and it’s as good as it will get but at different speeds and conditions the wheel will pull a little and I want to get rid of that. Thanks.

The Baystar has limits of applications, can’t be used on twin engines and they are for lower horsepower singles. The info is on Teleflex’s website. I do think it was fine up to 150hp if I remember correctly. I have heard good things about the Baystar cylinder and would have bought one but my HP was too high.
