I am studying how to purge my cylinders. I want to attempt the dual bleeder hoses off my open cocks going into a bottle of fluid. It looks like it could be a one person operation and a good airless method. All that being said, My steering is currently obviously low or full of air. I recently had the hoses removed and reinstalled because of a rigging tube I added to dress up my lines in the rear. but the last time I went out I kept steering to the right and that was a lot of steering to the right just to stay on course. My question finally is, can it get so low there will be no steeting at all and just how dangerous is it to run with it acting like this?
Yes, it will pretty much lock up or get really jumpy/jerky. It could throw you sideways. I’d say at least fill it back up. I had a low reservoir up at the helm and filled it back up. I tried bleeding it and there wasn’t any air at the actuator side. It was just so low at the helm that it was trying to push fluid with air, which doesn’t work. I needed a hose adaptor and a bottle of synthetic marine steering fluid. I got both from Fathom That Marine on Hwy 78. He’s a really nice guy and gave me some good advice on how to go about it. His prices were a lot cheaper than West Marine too.

if its low, the system is leaking and you need to fix that before moving forward
