Ok, I installed a cd/stereo into my console about 4 years ago. At first I was too lazy to wire it to my accessory switch, so I just ran it to one of my trolling motor batteries. That worked fine until I needed to use my trolling motor. So, last year I wired it in to the acc switch. It worked fine until I turned the key on. It sounds an alarm like the low oil pressure alarm. I cut it and wired it straight to the main battery cables coming into the console, same alarm when key is on. Am I just an idiot? I need some opinions or should I just take it up to a car stereo place? It would be nice to actually use this (**() radio!
Thanks,
Carson
Can you strip the wires and connect it straight to a seperate battery to see if it is the stereo or actually a wiring problem in the console. That would tell you pretty quick!
Yeah it works fine with one of my other batteries. Something is backfeedng into my panel/ignition; or something…
Wire it to an open spot on your fuse block…it doesn’t need a switch, it has an on/off button. That should get you music but it still doesn’t splain the alarm sound???
I tapped into the same wires as my fish finder (wired directly to my cigarette lighter), same thing. Everywhere I plug it in my console it works fine until the key is turned on. It makes no sense to me.
Swapped your hot and cold? Or, swapped the dimmer wire on the radio with main ground?

Is it an actual panel alarm? or an annoying alarm like sound coming from the stereo/speakers? If it is from the speakers, 9 times out of 10 it is a grounding issue. if it is an actual panel alarm, i think you bote is haunted.

It is definitely coming from the panel and not the speakers
I agree with Palmer, sounds like a reverse polarity alarm. Might be a problem with the stereo, try a different stereo system.
Is there any way to test the head unit for the polarity? And would it only alarm when the key is in the on position?
