I went fishing at a pond in my neighboorhood I found. It has grass carp I always see and I caught a nice cat about 5# in there. Another set of bass ponds I fish I’ve heard have big normal carp, but I haven’t seen any for sure. If anybodythat knows how to catch these fish wants to go fishin just let me know!

I’m a new here and don’t know much about the area. But I’ve fished “seriously” for carp for the last handful of years. I’m not too excited about grass carp. They are difficult to feed, but aren’t great fighters. Common carp, on the other had, are a great time. I’d be more than happy to kayak some ponds and fish for carp and point out what I’ve learned about carping by fly. Fair warning, I’m not a genuine expert. I’ve caught lots of fish mainly by fishing long hours and having lots of shots.
The pond I’m talking about possibly holding normal carp is actully pretty much only accessible by kayak. Sounds good though. I don’t have flies for carp or anything though. An just an 8wt setup. PM me and well go…

Flyg nailed it but…if your still hard up for a big grass carp, try wrapping chartreuse or green mohair yarn ( or similar) to a small stout sharp hook and fish “dead drift” near the bottom with an indicator of sorts. I like buoyant grasshoppers for this as opposed to yarn or “bobbers” since in my sick mind it’s less likely to spook them. In short- imitate a clump of delicious grass
I’ve been out of town for a while and hope to be back by the week’s end. I’d be up for a trip soon. Maybe carp would ease this pain in my heart caused by cruel redfish in February. But maybe not. Carp can be mean too.
Not sure what to tell ya about grass carp, but most of the flies thrown up here for carp look very similar to redfish flies but different colors. I’m trying my hand at carp fishing up here this year for the first time. I know that scotty has something in mind for ya, but check online as well at www.castersflyshop.com. Dave has some neat carp flies and tying videos. have fun and good luck.
I’ve PMed a couple people here who want to go.
I’m game for grass carp really anytime… especially after school during the week.
For normal Carp I’m told there in a another pond and you can bank fish it with chum, or try to yak in it.
Edit: I bass fished today in that carp pond with a canoe. Several 3-4# fish all on topwater. Time to bust out the freshwater gear!
