I got robbed on Lake Murray!

Had to buy gas on Sunday at Lighthouse marina @ $3.75 a gal. for 89 octane.:face_with_head_bandage:

expensive lesson! Fill up before you get there. I’m down in Charleston now, but visit now and again, when is that new marina right on the lexington side of the dam going to be finished?

I hve not heard about a new marina! Were is it going to be. I had my boat in the water already, guess next time I will go to Jakes.

Jakes is the best bet. With the new dam, right when you are driving over the dam from lexington to Irmo, right there on the left is the park with the beach. Right there next to it when the road first goes over the water, they have been building a marina there for months. Right where they pulled out those WWII planes about 8-10 years ago

that is not a new marina; that is a new bridge. in talking to richard at lake world he is going to get a new parking lot. he said that they are going to build him one. long overdue.

a new bridge? leading where? Last time I saw it, it was water level, and stuck out from the bank about 40 yards into the lake, and wasn’t connected to a road. How is that working? Not being a smarta$$, haven’t seen it in awhile, really would like to know what it’s going to be like when finished. A family friend told me he read about it being a new marina attached to the park, everyone makes mistakes though.

It is the new bridge construction for the Hwy 6 expansion to 4 lanes. There will be two lanes south over the old dam and 2 lanes north between the old dam and the new back up dam. It is easily recoconizable now as a bridge although cranes are still on barges.

I don’t believe you would ever see a marina built at the mouth of the flood gates. When the gates are open, you would not want to be anywhere near them on anything that floats.

here at the walterboro airport, the cost of jetA fuel is only$3.98 per gallon…about 130 octane:wink: some of the jets take 3,000 gallons though. they just swipe the c-card and think nothing of it. thats an OUCH!:face_with_head_bandage:

Good point, although those are the relief flood gates and haven’t been opened in years. All of the water flows out of the Intake towers and down into the Saluda. By the looks of 'em, I wouldn’t be suprised if the chains on that relief gate are rusted through. Still, not a good place for a marina, just in case. I’ve driven down between the dams now a whole bunch, pretty cool! I think they should fill that dip in with lake water, stock it with Every catfish and striper that is 20LB+ that is caught, and then a few weeks a year sell people licenses for $100 to fish in that hole.

nauti-boy. they open the flood gates approx 6 times per year. they are very operational as i was with them just recently when they opened them up. it is really a site to see that much water rushing out. a good friend of mine did a lot of the steel work with his company and i was invited many times to go with him. you are right; that is really cool to be behind the dam.

Ryan Poe,
I use to work at that airport when I was a teenager. Use to take flying lessons there also.
