… My best buddy came up from Florida to do some tailing from the kayaks. He has been coming up for low tide winter fishing, but never for high tide stuff. He had never seen a redfish tailing, so I was sure he would be in for a treat, and he wasn’t let down! Hit a spot over by my house on Saturday early morning. Didn’t see many fish, but my buddy hooked up and landed the first tail he ever saw. I was about a hundred yards away and didn’t get a picture, but from the hoopin and hollering he was doing, it must have been a good fish! I got this one on a gulp crab, and that was about it for Saturday other than a few small trout.
We got up early again after a long Saturday night, and headed up to the 'ville. Nothing on the first flat, so we moved down, and found them pretty thick. Here is one my buddy caught, see if you notice anything out of the ordinary in these pics:
We saw a ton of “Ghost Tails”, that would pop up for a second, then disappear without a trace right around high tide. I did get this one:
As the tide started to fall, we found the fish again. I had two take my bait and run, but didn’t get hooked. Spent a bit finding fish and then watching my buddy chase them around to no avail.
Once the water got low in the grass, we messed around a bit with the cast net, and then set up along a grass line for some bait fishing. This is where the action turned on! This was the first bite at the grass edge:
