Grice Cove:
Mud minnow under popping cork
Mud minnow on jig head (bounced the bottom on retrieve)
0 fish
Jetties (wow, the harbor was FLAT and CALM this morning):
South side of south jetty. Near the end (close to dynamite).
Large minnow on carolina rig soaked on bottom
Mud minnow under popping cork: cast, floated & popped as close to rocks as possible
Mud minnow on jig head bouncing along bottom near rocks
0 fish
Pitt St. ruins:
stopped for just a bit
Floated minnow under cork by the ruins a few times
Mud minnow on jig head in all directions, bounced across the bottom
Also berkley gulp 4" chartreuse curly tail grub on jig head
0 fish
Rode down ICW a few hundred yards and fished on left hand side of (Jeanette Creek?) in shallows near oyster mounds:
Admittedly, tide was low and below the oyster mounds. Hard mud bottom.
Soaked mud minnow on carolina rig
Fished live minnow on jig head
Fished pearl/blue glimmer Z-Man Minnowz on trout eye jig head
Fished berkley gulp 4" curly tail grub on jig head
0 fish
Rode up ICW to back side of Little Goat Island. Fished creek mouths on both sides of ICW.
Soaked minnow on carolina rig
Live minnow on jig head
Fished pearl/blue glimmer Z-Man Minnowz on trout eye jig head (mixed up retrieves)
Area looked floundery (pretty sure that’s a word) so I fished a minnow on a bucktail jig as well.
0 fish
Docks on left side of creek leaving Breach Inlet heading south
Drifted past every dock and cast to grass line as well as around each dock
Pearl/blue glimmer Z-Man Minnowz on trout eye jig head: varied my retrieves
0 fish
Just got off the water.
How is this even possible?!? Ha! I continue to amaze myself with my suckitude out there.
I’d love to hear some thoughts.
It wasn’t a total failure: I did get a sunburn.

I think you need to go set up in the middle of the river. Stono inlet or Kiawah would be good. Put you some fresh peeled shrimp on a double drop bottom rig and catch you a mess of whiting to get your moral up. Anchor up in about 12-13 feet of water There are no flounder in this early. Go back to fishing the creeks with live bait under a cork when the water warms up in to the mid 70s and there is a good amount of bait in the creeks again. Catching redfish and trout is not easy this time of the year. The jetties are dead until about mid may so don’t waste time out there. Best time for jetties fishing is june-October

Thanks for the encouragement, ya’ll. Yep, it’s always great to get on the water. Messin, please don’t abort mission solely on account of me. You might still get on the fish as others on this board have.
Fishboy, I agree with you on it being early for flounder, but the warm weather has everything kind of weird. I caught a couple of flounder last week as well as a few others on this board. So I was just not ruling it out as a possibility yesterday.
Every person on this sight has had a goose egg day, it happens. As far as the flounder go, I guess y’all didn’t see Fatrat’s post from the other day or mine from the other week, there are still flattys to be caught…DF, you nailed it on the head! …and hey, at least you didn’t break down LOL…thanks for the report as well!
While these types of trips can make for a long day, it’s still a long day on the water which isn’t too shabby. Plus, there’s always something to be learned, even on days we get “zeroed.” Keep getting after it because the day it all comes together, and it will happen, will make days like this that much sweeter.
No matter how much it hurts, how dark it gets, or how far you fall…you are never out of the fight.
Thanks for the report!! We’ve all had many days like that, me especially!! My wife and I are going to give Saturday a shot. If we’re successful a post will follow!! if not…??
March is always tough. It’s my least favorite month to fish. Once the bait fish start filling in it will pick up. Keep at it!
There are flounder around, just for the record, but they will also fill in with better numbers soon.
If I’m targeting redfish, trout and flounder and catch a whiting, that still does not “count” as a fish for me. But that would be a rare occasion considering I only fish artificial lures. But Moral, I have a couple questions regarding how you were fishing. First, how deep are your corks tied, and how deep was the water you were throwing the corks into? Secondly, I only saw one reference to throwing along grasslines. I pick up a lot of fish in pockets and grass points with current nearby. How fast of a retrieve were you making? All these things can make the difference in a caught fish or a fish that was missed. If you ever want to buddy up and fish, let me know, I can’t remember the last time I have not caught a red or trout on my trip out. And to correct what someone else posted, the flounder are for sure inshore, I just caught a 19" a couple days ago. They may not be in massive numbers like summer, but with the mild winter and warming water temps, they are definitely here and hungry.

“If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there would be a shortage of fishing poles”
I enjoy exploring new spots and prospecting. It usually goes like this for me. I’ll try new spots all over for ab 2-3 hours but if it’s not working out and I have low fish counts I move to proven spots. The kicker is it’s taken years on the water before I had ab 10-12 good spots out of every boat landing. Just takes time
Oh yeah and another good way to prospect is driving along the banks at low tide in a foot of water. Just cover tons of ground til you spook a school of reds. Sometimes even after you spook them you can pull a couple out sometimes not. Go back the next day same tide and sneak up on general location you saw the reds. They will be there
