And braided line!!!
I went out to the ville on Tuesday. Got a later start than I planned on, but it worked out for me. Left the landing about an hour and a half after low, and had just enough water to float all the way out. Immediately found fish pushing in the shallows not 150 yards from the island. Threw out some cut mullet and started working the redfish magic.
Mullet went down first, nice 9 pound fish. Next was the redfish magic with a purple and chart. body, 7.5-8lb fish. I started seeing more fish pushing around in front of me, and was so busy trying to deal with wind and casting, that I didn’t notice my mullet running to the side. By the time I heard the drag and got the rod in my hands, the fish was running full steam and had wrapped my line around some oysters. Here is where the Braided line part comes in. I pulled anchor, opened the bail, and let the fish run while I got the line untangled. I don’t know how the line didn’t get cut, but I am a believer in braid! After a lengthy battle, I landed a 13lb bruiser! All the comotion from the fight and the line untangling must have spooked the rest of the fish, as I didn’t get another bite or see another in that spot.
Moved over to another spot along the grass, and tried a minnow on a float. As soon as it hit the water, it disappeared. After another lengthy battle (The fish ran into the grass, and it took a while to work him out, did I mention that I love braided line?), I boated another 9 pounder.
The tide was only supposed to be a 5.1, but with the wind, the water pushed into the grass more like a 6.1 tide, so I decided to see If I could find some tailers. Immediately started seeing fish on the early part of the flood, it was like being a kid in a candy store for about 20 minutes, I didn’t know which fish to throw at first! Ended up spooking or just losing about 10 fish total, some of which were large! Finally got a smaller fish to take a gulp crab, and he put up a fun little fight.
All in all, a great day solo on the water with 5 reds betw
Congrats on one hell of a day. Any pics? You ever tried using braid? Sorry couldn’t resist. Seriously though, I think I need to tag along with you and Timbuk2 to find out where the reds are hiding. I almost renamed it Troutville.

DD,
Awesome day of fishing!
I went out Saturday and saw alot more movement. I lost 2 big reds before finally getting an 8 pounder to the yak. The other 2 I’m pretty sure were at least that big. I tried to stop one from making it to an oyster bed (and failed) but it cut the mono leader. I use braided on every thing out here in the redfishville.

I wish I had pics, I sent my Pentax back for the second time, hopefully they will fis it, or I will buy an Olympus!
I always forget how good the trout fishing can be out there. I meant to try for trout on Tues, but kept finding reds! Oh well. We did find a spot one day that was trout on every cast, but I haven’t been able to find the same spot again.

Go Buckeyes!!! No, Seriously, GO!!!
Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!!!
I hopped out of the yak last night and waded around that same area during the flood. Saw three tails. No bites though.
Looks like a nice weekend coming up!!! I’ll be there.
After all of my recent strike-outs on the tailing redfish, I’m thinking that shotgun fishing isn’t such a bad idea.

Wow thats awesome. Im trying to get out this afternoon hopefully.
JOaY,
I try to throw out as many lines in Redfishville as I think TBjr can reel in, in a short period of time. That’s usually my motivating factor. An 11 year old boy trying to hold up a big 8-12lb pig for a photo is just too much fun.
