I need bigger tackle 5/8/2017

Fished the EB out to 380. Weeds were scattered and impossible to dodge from 80’-2000’. No good formed lines. In 1300’ we finally found large mats near each other in a sort of a line without a bunch of trash all around them. Got hot then but it didn’t matter. The fish would find weeds and cause the 15# Mahi to turn into a 70# mahi with weeds and the Squalls and TLD25’s with 30# momoi weren’t any safe match. Good battle and some jumps later they would come unbuttoned by causing slack. Finished with 6 decent Mahi, biggest 30#, others averaged 10-15# class. Drifted big LB area in 160’ and picked up slob porgies and b-liners. Found some almaco and AJ’s for a couple crew to use for shark bait later. Cool site of the day was a 8-10’ hammerhead shredding bait in the middle of some thick weed mats. Stayed surfaced for as long as we could see him. Tuna busted all around us in the morning but we never got them to take. White/blue was fire. Tried for first time my white/blue cedar plug with 3 lure daisy chain on the leader and the big Mahi loved it. It got blown up atleast 5 times. Great first Charleston trip of the year.

EB to 380. Man, you covered some water. Congrats on getting some fishing. Glad you had a good day.

Thanks for the report. We put a bunch of miles in today as well with not very good results. Way too many pulled hooks.

That shrimp looks like some high class bait for bottom fishing! Unless that was lunch!?! #128556;

Shrimp was brought from a crew member who said he had a bunch in the freezer. When I say him fishing with it, they were meggo shrimp. I for the first time ever didn’t fish all day. Just captained, gaffed, grabbed and set rods and let the crew have at it. Really enjoyed not having sore shoulders and hands this morning.

Good job! Sounds like fishing to me! It’s enough work without reeling! Lol…
