Thinking of sorta repowering…
Looking for a pair of fuel injected 175’s… Don’t care what brand…Don’t care of hours (there good or there not) preferably no FICHT, but might work something out.
Only have a budget of $8k w/ controls.
Would like something newer, but have not had good luck.
If not i’ll run my old 93 Mercs till they explode… Looking for better fuel burn, and no carb cleaning.
I know i won’t get the 8k back in fuel, but it will shut the wife up! I can take a day of beating for blowing $8k on motors.
Better than hearing you blew $100 in fuel today twice a week!!! Think she won’t b!tch about $70 in fuel.
Yes i think i will get %30 better fuel burn with fuel injection.
Will sell pair 93 175 mercs for $2k with controls. If i find a different set
Thanks
Chris

Uncle has similar boat… 25’ Proline. He is getting almost 40% better fuel burn than i am w. 2000ish rudes… ya they are FICHT (nothing but problems).
He is getting about 40% better fuel burn then i am, guess apples to oranges.
They do idle better… easier to start after sitting… just something newer.
Guess i could get a 150 yammy and be broke all the time… that would save me some fuel… J/K

Fichts are direct injection and sip fuel like 4 strokes. Efi, like optimax and ox66 are very thirsty. I averaged about 1 mpg with twin 250 ox66s. Probably a little less in the ocean.
I doubt you will save enough in gas or oil to justify the expense.
If 225’5 aren’t to large there is a pair of 1999 225hp yamaha ox66’s ,listed on charleston craigs list for $7,000 controls, oil tanks, harnesses complete with 425 hrs. on them
I know it would not justify… would you rather be in the ocean with 1993 Mercs, or something a bit newer?
New 175 ETIC’s would be great, but i can’t afford that, or justify putting $20k into a old Trophy.

actually an Optimax is Direct Injected and may well be better on fuel than a 4 stroke plus they’re much lighter.
You would probably come out better with a newer more fuel efficient hull and newer more fuel effiecient motors than trying to do what you are doing. Sell your boat and take the extra 8000 to upgrade.

Sounds great!!!
Should be easy to sell a boat right now (tried, didn’t work)… Should be even easier to find a 25’ W/A with newer twins for $15k.
Wish those 225’s wouldn’t sink my boat… they would be perfect.
OK, so i won’t get better fuel economy… fine. Still want newer engines… mine are pushing almost 3k hours.

Chris,
There is a great looking pair of Suzuki 225s on eBay and it says they are located in Charleston,SC for something like $4000. You should see what those 175s weigh and then see what the 225s weigh and you might be surprised at the minimal difference. I have seen your boat and think 225s would be fine. I have owned several pairs of Suzukis and loved them with no issues what so ever. Some of the most dependable motors I have had.
