I was ferrying the girls around town shopping last weekend so I stopped at a fly shop I don’t get to very often and picked up a couple of these. The one crab is made out of mesh and I thought the other looked like a pretty good fiddler pattern.
So, did I buy some fly box ornaments? I gotta learn how to tie my own flies. Looks like you could have some fun adding your little twist, like the weed guard I added on the mesh crab.

I can at least look at them and dream… I’ve got to bring the boat down to get a little bit of repair done on the hull (treadplate wheel well beat up the port side corner of the hull coming/going to Florida) so I’ve printed the tide charts with > 6.0 for July, August, September and October. I would have been down today but you know how things go. Did you get out any of these tides??

pick up tying. its good when you cant get out there. makes you think about the fishes perspective. i think it has helped my overall piscatology more than any thing else.
we dont need no reservations we dont need no cruise control
These are fantastic patterns. Looks like some I have seen at the new Orvis shop at the Market Commons. The flies there are amazing. Makes me realize how bad the ones I tie are.
Then again I have not bought a fly all year.
Then again I don’t fish enough.
fly, “Then again I don’t fish enough.” is why I buy so much stuff.

I tie these guys with two glass rattles and they have proven deadly. However, they take a while to tie and do not move through the grass very well, so you need to be spot-on in your casting. If I am off on a cast or if the fish changes direction on me, I can shake the rod and typically the fish will turn and locate the fly.

Thats a very nice fiddler. You do have to be accurate in the cast with those. What are you using for the body? I can see everything else.

I spent 90% of my money on boats and drink. The rest I wasted.

The body is comprised of two glass rattles wrapped in brown thread with some strips of chenille to finish it off.

Nice fly. Weedless?

If you are talking about the one I tie, then yes it is weedless. However, it does not move well through the grass, so you need to be accurate with your casts.
