well, your use of punctuation sure is improving…good luck with the charter business…check with Capt Fritz, he was recently voted Charleston’s Best Guide and I hear he is looking for a protege…

Punctuation and good diction go a long way as well.

Yes, but first you have to meet the somebody. Hang out in marinas where charter boats dock. Or try to get a job in the marina. Be there when the boats come in. Show interest, but don’t be a nuisance. Do a lot more listening and watching than you do talking. Offer to help clean fish, offer to help wash boats, carry gear, anything, get to know people. Present yourself well, be respectful, be patient, and before long one of those Captain’s mates can’t make work and you’ll be asked to fill in. Work your azz off. You got to put in the time on the waterfront if that’s what you want to be.

Edit: One more piece of advice if you want to work towards your Captain license. Start keeping a log book now of every fishing trip you take. It requires 360 days of documented time to apply for your license. Also start studying now, that test isn’t easy. I’d start with Chapman Piloting and Seamanship. Learn it cover to cover.

You will also have to pass a drug screening, complete physical, background check, maybe a TWIC card depending on where you work, current first aid and CPR certifications.

Throw a net…everyone does.
Catch fish…can you do it every day?
Happy with making mates pay offshore which is 150 or so plus tip. Your day will start at 3 am and end about nine…pm. Do it again. Do it again.

Inshore you say? Got a boat? Got insurance? Got a ticket? Pass a drug test? (Had to ask).

Still interested? Pm me and I will put in touch with my son who does inshore and in the past offshore. He does three to four inshore per week and does 50 hours per week in a local tackle shop. He will be happy to talk to you.

My advice would be to stay in school and then try to get a job in purchasing, it’s as kush a job as there is, you get to spend other peoples money and spend all day on Charleston Fishing. What could be better?

ouch

MT2, get MT and go with John Fuss on a trip. I think he still lurks around here. His dream was to become a guide and he did it. It is about passion and what you really really really want to do. But I’ll tell you, you should consider a college education first and foremost so you can afford the gear and all to go do it part time like most of us. The best job for me was computer programming… work with smart people in a nice place and can always go to nice fishing trips. By the way, I’m close to 60 and I still watch “how to” stuff on YouTube just in case somebody else has a better way!

Wando grill I’m just trying to get to no people so if everything goes good in school then I might be able to work as one. But yea I can’t do it now because I still have school but maybe later on and thanks everyone for the help and yea I can throw a perfect circle with the cast net
