ICW Navigational Hazard Warning

Someone has hit the marker on the ocean side near Breach Inlet. At hightide, there’s only about a foot sticking up over the water.

Just a heads up incase you are heading that way.

So nothing has been done, who should be contacted? dnr, coast guard, armr corps?

I called Coast Guard and reported it. They didn’t seem concerned.

Marker has been like that for almost 2 months now.

It is what it is!

Wouldnt expect anything to happen in a hurry.

Hitting that thing at almost any speed would certainly ruin your weekend.

Probably wouldn’t be a bad idea to mark that thing. Will a 5 gallon bucket fit over the end of the pole? I can put one of those orange home depot buckets over it to help others spot it.

A bad day fishing is much better than a good day at work.

I don’t know if it’ll do any good, but I’ve sent an email to the army corp of engineers via their “contact” link on their website, sent message to both Charleston Headquarters and Navigation.

It probably would be better to swipe an abandoned traffic cone with reflective tape and nail to it.

Next person heading up the IWC should do this. I don’t have any plans to be up that way anytime real soon.

Mr Sutton,

Thank you for the information regarding the ATON issues in the AIWW. The agency tasked with maintaining the ATONs is the US Coast Guard. They are the ones who repair and or re-position all the Aids to Navigation in SC waters.

The Sector Charleston Waterways Management number is (843) 740-3180, option 5, or the ATON Team Charleston’s number is (843)720-7734, these offices would be the best to contact regarding the issue.

Might want to think twice about attaching something to that bouy. Of course it is only a misdemeanor with no more than a $500 fine if the USCG catches you.

Just keep calling them eventually they will get out there. Hopefully before someone ruins a hull on it.

If you call them you will need exact gps numbers for the piling, or they will never find it if you just tell them halfway between the ben sawyer and IOP connector.

So much for search and rescue if they can’t find the piling…

There’s only a couple markers between Ben Sawyer and IOP Connector, so I am sure they can find it.

This marker was fixed when I went by today.

Did they nail any driveway reflectors on the pole? If not, I’d guess a barge will hit it in a few days.
