First day out in a month. Raining bearing down on us got the boat out for about 2 hours.
Cut mullet - 1 rat
Mud minnow - 11 reds - 4 slot and 7 rats on a pop and cork.
Largest 17"
They definitely were feeding hard and had good fight and life in them!
Tight lines!
Good report, a little too wet for me to be out today!
Went out on the ICW Saturday as well. Went to the few spots I’ve been semi-productive before and found nothing, but tired a spot that I’d suspected should be productive but had never fished and found tons of reds. Falling tide and fished right to dead low tide and were still catching fish when we left (I had somewhere to be unfortunately)
First fish was an average sized trout then over then next 90 minutes my future stepfather-in-law and I caught about 20 reds, all out of the same spot. It was a good time and the weather was nice(ish) the whole time (the sun even came out for a bit). Didn’t start raining until I got back to the dock in Mt. P around 1:00
A few rats, mostly 15"-17" small slot reds, with the biggest of the group being a 21"-red. (all were thrown back in good condition)
All caught on shrimp and MM, most under a cork, but a few on a fishfinder rig (had two rigs set up for corks and a few others, one of the hooks broke on one of my corked rigs early on but we were catching them so fast that I didn’t want to miss the window…after I’d caught a few more i realized they weren’t going anywhere and put a fresh hook on.)
I’d been getting into fishing a lot in the last 4 or 5 months and most days I’d be doing good to not get skunked. This was my first wildly successful day of fishing I’ve had where I was captain, using my rigs and “my” spots…so that was a good feeling. To make it better my future stepfather-in-law hadn’t been fishing in over 20 years and he caught several fish, so now he thinks that I’m some fishing expert
Brave man to have gone out Saturday, glad you caught some fish!
I love the doppler! Should a window and allowed us to get back to the dock dry! Gonna get after it again this weekend? Def gonna have some minnows on hand.
